The first International Youth Nuclear Forum Obninsk NEW (Nuclear Education Week) was held in Obninsk in September, 2023. NNSTU students and young atomic scientists took part in it.
The Forum was organized in preparation for the World Youth Festival 2024 and the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation.
Obninsk is the first Russian science city where you can trace the entire history of the world nuclear energy. Outstanding scientists worked here: I.V. Kurchatov, A.I. Leipunsky and etc. What is more, the world's first nuclear power plant was built here. The city is also a home to large scientific institutions of atomic, physical, chemical, materials science and the other profiles.
The Forum was attended by students, postgraduates and young scientists from more than 70 countries, as well as recognized experts: representatives of the academic community, major international corporations and government authorities. The key theme of this year's Forum was "Strong education for sustainable development of the world".
Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev was represented by foreign students from Indonesia, China, Congo, Syria and Senegal, as well as assistants of the Department "Nuclear and Thermal Power Plants". The group was headed by Deputy Head of the Foreign Students’ Education Center Maiya Mishina.
The program included a plenary session "Strong Education as foundation for sustainable development of the world" and a thematic session "Energy for humanity: unlocking the potential of nuclear energy".
