Russian-Chinese University Alliance of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River

NNSTU is the leading university from Russian side of Russian-Chinese University Alliance of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River. NNSTU Rector Prof. Dmitriev is its co-chairman from Russian side, Sichuan University Rector Prof. Wang Jinsong is its co-chairman from Chinese side. Nowadays "Volga-Yangtze" University Alliance includes 50 Russian universities and 37 Chinese universities.

The Volga-Yangtze format of Russian-Chinese interregional cooperation has been implemented since 2013.

In June, 2017 the signing ceremony of the agreement on establishment of Russian-Chinese University Alliance of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River was held during the meeting of the Council for Interregional Cooperation in the Volga-Yangtze format.

In October, 2017 I Forum of "Volga-Yangtze" University Alliance was held in Chengdu (China). From Russian side 30 representatives from 17 universities took part in the event, from Chinese side - more than 60 representatives from 30 universities.

The main directions of the work were:

  • The Belt and Road Initiative and regional development of China and Russia.
  • Interaction between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Volga-Yangtze format.
  • Chinese -Russian economic and trade cooperation within the Volga-Yangtze framework.
  • The Volga-Yangtze format - prospects and challenges.
  • Chinese-Russian humanitarian cooperation within the Volga-Yangtze format.

In May, 2019 II Forum of "Volga-Yangtze" University Alliance was held in Cheboksary (Russia). More than 100 people from the Russian and Chinese sides took part in the event. The topic was "University Alliance Is the Reliable Foundation for Russian-Chinese Interregional Cooperation".

In October, 2020 III Forum organized by the co-founders - Sichuan University and NNSTU was held. It was devoted to topical issues of further development of inter-university cooperation in the post-epidemic period and was held online.

In December, 2021 IV Forum was held online. It was devoted to topical issues of academic and scientific and technical cooperation between Russian and Chinese universities, as well as development of interregional humanitarian and economic cooperation.

In December, 2022 V Forum was held online. The main purpose of the event was exchange of the best practices and knowledge that will contribute to growth of potential of interregional cooperation "Volga-Yangtze" and strengthening of strategic partnership between Russia and China. The speakers were unanimous in their opinion that "Volga-Yangtze" University Alliance has become one of the most powerful tools for development of Russian-Chinese academic partnership. Its results speak for themselves: interaction between Russian and Chinese universities, each of which contributes to development of relations between the two countries, is expanding every year.

In November, 2023 VI Forum of Russian-Chinese University Alliance of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River was held in Nanchang (the People's Republic of China). The Forum was dedicated to the topic "Educational and scientific potential of cooperation between Russian and Chinese universities". The Forum participants expressed new ideas, voiced promising areas of joint work between universities and identified important components of development and strengthening of partnership relations between Russia and China. And the most important thing is that these are important components of development of Russian-Chinese multifaceted interaction and strengthening of mutual understanding and friendship between our countries.

As part of the work of "Volga-Yangtze" University Alliance summer and winter schools, internships are held on a regular basis, joint educational programs are implemented, scientific and technical cooperation between Russian and Chinese universities is carried out.

STAR-NET: Regional Network for Education and Training in Nuclear Technology

Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev is a member of the Regional Network for Education and Training in Nuclear Technology STAR-NET under the aegis of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

STAR-NET unites 15 universities from 8 countries:

STAR-NET cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) complimenting the existing international initiatives including the initiatives of the IAEA by focusing on the area of education, training and problems related to nuclear technology. In addition, STAR-NET could benefit from the experience gained in the already established national and regional education and knowledge networks, for example, in Asia, Europe and Latin America.
