45 foreign teachers, postgraduate students and specialists in the field of nuclear energy from 18 countries, including Myanmar, Indonesia, Jordan, Ethiopia and Egypt completed the course "Small power nuclear power plants - basic aspects and life cycle" in the "Train-the-Trainers" format. The course was developed and implemented within the framework of the Rosatom State Corporation project "International cooperation in the field of nuclear education" with Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev, Afrikantov OKBM JSC and the Rosatom Technical Academy.
The deployment of small power nuclear power plants is an efficient, environmentally friendly, safe and economically sound solution for providing electric energy and heat to remote areas with underdeveloped transmission network infrastructure. Nowadays such an interest in this field is rapidly moving from the stage of analytical awareness of their advantages to the stage of concrete steps for their design and construction.
The aim of the course is to give theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in the field of nuclear energy with a focus on concrete technologies. The experts shared Russian experience in the field of design and engineering of small and medium power nuclear power plants, spoke about their operation and touched upon safety issues of promising nuclear power plants.
The "Train-the-Trainers" courses are held regularly by the Rosatom Technical Academy within the framework of the Rosatom State Corporation project "International cooperation in the field of nuclear education". They cover a wide range of topics: from production of electricity to irradiation of medical materials and agricultural products. The courses contribute to transfer of nuclear education – transfer of competencies for teaching students nuclear and radiation technologies to partner countries.
